Tragic End to Family Vacation: Stanley Kotowski Found Dead in Hilton Head
Stanley Kotowski, a 60-year-old Massachusetts man, was found dead on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, bringing an end to a desperate search that began on August 16. The Beaufort County Sheriff's Office and Coroner's Office revealed that Kotowski died by suicide, with authorities stating that he hung himself "underneath" a home near the rental he vanished from during a mental health crisis.
Mental Health Crisis Led to Tragic Consequences
According to Kotowski's wife, he was suffering from "really bad insomnia" and "paranoia" in the days leading up to his disappearance. The family, who was on vacation from Boston, reported Kotowski missing after he left their rental property barefoot. An extensive search effort was launched, but unfortunately, his body was discovered 10 days later in a crawl space under a nearby home.
An Investigation into a Tragic Event
The Beaufort County Coroner's Office held a press conference to discuss the disappearance and death of Kotowski. The investigation, which included the search for a construction worker in the area, ultimately led to the discovery of Kotowski's body. The coroner's office ruled the cause of death as asphyxiation by hanging, a suicide.
Our thoughts are with the Kotowski family during this difficult time.
